Codes and Conversations
Soularch Gallery, San Francisco Fall 2005

The series of prints, Codes and Conversations, is about communication. I employed the String Alphabet for the Blind (from 19th century Scotland) to visually encode my own words into knotted strings. The prints were made by actually inking up the string and pressing it onto paper using an etching press. At first appearing as a tangle of threads, the prints are records of actual thoughts and phrases, evoking a language that is tangible, but cannot be read in the traditional sense.
